Centrum Techniki Okrętowej S.A. (Ship Design and Research Centre) forms the research, development and design background for the Polish maritime industry and through its many years’ activities contributes to maintaining high-level innovativeness of ships being built in Poland as well as worldwide. The directions of development work and research conducted in CTO S.A. are determined by the needs of the maritime industry, which guarantees sovereignty of technical thought of this very important branch of the national economy. The acquired findings of research work are used not only in shipbuilding, but also in other types of maritime industries, public utilities and land-industries. They also enable export of knowledge and advanced technologies.
CTO S.A. is an originator of the Polish Maritime Industries Forum which works at the Polish Chamber of Maritime Commerce, together with other organizations forms the Polish Technology Platform of Water Transport and takes an active part in the program of Regional Innovation Strategy for Pomeranian Voivodeship.
Research and development works are performed by CTO S.A. in cooperation with numerous domestic companies, such as shipbuilding and ship repair yards, suppliers of maritime equipment and design offices as well as technical universities and other research centres, with the use of varied tools for financing research regulated by the Polish law.
Starting from 1998 CTO S.A. has taken part in the European Union Framework Programs carrying out projects together with foreign and domestic partners and running its own ones. The participation in the European Union Framework Programs is an important factor in the development of the Polish scientific and research potential, an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and good practises and also a considerable source of financial resources to conduct pioneering research and develop the research infrastructure. Thanks to its participation in domestic and international organizations CTO S.A. strives actively for the needs of the Polish maritime industries so that they are taken permanently into account in the research programs of the European Research Area.
